Preserving Heritage, Inspiring Futures
A scholar-led cultural and academic centre dedicated to the preservation, study, and global engagement of Dagbon history, culture, governance systems, and broader African indigenous knowledge traditions.
The Alliance Centre for African & Dagbon Studies (ACADS) is a scholar-led cultural and academic centre hosted by Impact Alliance Consult. The Centre is dedicated to the preservation, study, and global engagement of Dagbon history, culture, governance systems, and broader African indigenous knowledge traditions.
ACADS positions Dagbon not only as a cultural heritage site, but as an intellectual space through which critical African Studies debates on governance, authority, conflict resolution, identity, and decolonial thought can be advanced. The Centre serves as a bridge between indigenous knowledge holders, academic scholars, cultural institutions, and global audiences.
While institutionally hosted by Impact Alliance Consult for sustainability, compliance, and administrative support, ACADS operates with clear scholarly independence, research agendas, methodologies, and publications are directed by academic leadership, community engagement, and ethical guidelines.
To be a leading African-rooted and globally respected Centre for the preservation, scholarly study, and contemporary relevance of Dagbon culture and African indigenous knowledge systems.
To advance rigorous scholarship, cultural immersion, and intellectual exchange centered on Dagbon traditions and African knowledge systems through research, documentation, publications, strategic partnerships, and inclusive community engagement.
ACADS is designed as a scholar-governed centre committed to academic freedom and intellectual excellence. While external funding may support its activities, research themes, methodologies, and outputs are determined by academic leadership in consultation with communities and advisory scholars.
The Centre prioritizes:
ACADS does not function as a campaigning or advocacy platform. Instead, it produces knowledge that may inform policy, education, and cultural dialogue without being shaped by predetermined ideological or donor agendas.
An annual high-level lecture and dialogue platform bringing leading African and Diaspora scholars into conversation with Dagbon history, philosophy, and governance systems. Outputs include recorded lectures, edited volumes, and policy-relevant reflection papers.
A peer-reviewed publication series dedicated to African indigenous governance systems, oral historiography, decolonial thought, and cultural philosophy.
A long-term programme to ethically document, preserve, and digitize Dagbon oral traditions and cultural knowledge for scholarly and educational use.
ACADS operates as a semi-autonomous centre with its own academic and operational leadership while remaining aligned with the strategic direction of Impact Alliance Consult.
